Meip Gies-September 10,1943

I found out that Mr. Koophius has to have an operation. This is terrible news for all of us. We have become like one big family. I felt sad when I heard the news because it doesn't seem like the operation might not go well. Anne didn't take this news very well. She was feeling sad because Mr. Koophius has to stay in the hospital for at least 4 weeks. It will be a long time before he will be able to visit the family again. I will try to keep everyone positive.

I was also feeling kind of sad for him because I don't think he will be able to survive the operation.
