Meip Gies- November 17,1943

We have a problem in the family of those in the warehouse; diphtheria is in Elli's home. She was unable to come to the warehouse for 6 whole weeks, I know that the Frank and the Van Daan family are all worried about her. They are just those kind of people. Even thought they have so much going on, they still show that they are about Elli. Since she is the one who does most of the shopping for the family, they probably miss her especially. I will try to ease their minds.

Johannes Kleman - November 17,1942

Mr.Dussel was so exited that he got to go into hiding with the Franks and the Van Daans. Mr.Dussel was greeted nicely and he was in shock because he couldn't see something so small with 8 people living there. Mr.Dussel remembered Mr. Frank. In fact, he said he never thought he would see the day when a man like Mr. Frank would have to go into hiding. He was very shocked to find out the they were still alive.

Miep told Mr.Dussel some of the house rule. One of the rule was that if they hear something they have to be quite. There were very strict rules about when they could move around and what they could do. Mr. Dussel will be sharing a room with Mr. Frank's youngest daughter, Anne.

Bep Voskuijl - September 10, 1943

Today, I heard that something exciting has happened that I can't wait to share with the Franks and the Van Daans. Things have been getting worst for everyone lately. So, I am excited to be able to share some positive news with them. The news is: Italy finally surrendered!

Meip Gies-September 10,1943

I found out that Mr. Koophius has to have an operation. This is terrible news for all of us. We have become like one big family. I felt sad when I heard the news because it doesn't seem like the operation might not go well. Anne didn't take this news very well. She was feeling sad because Mr. Koophius has to stay in the hospital for at least 4 weeks. It will be a long time before he will be able to visit the family again. I will try to keep everyone positive.

I was also feeling kind of sad for him because I don't think he will be able to survive the operation.

Victor Kugler - February 3 , 1944

Today I just read the newspaper and I read that the German will do what ever they can to defend the their country. I have seen maps of which part of the land will be flooded. The Franks family was thinking what they will do if the street water raised to 1 meter. They also, was thinking what would they do if the Germans evacuated Amsterdam. I heard while reading the newspaper, someone say leave the city and disguises them self as best as they could. Than they started to argue about what they should do. All day the talked about the invasion. If there was a flood on our street it would cause trouble because than the German will evacuate everyone from the street including me. Then I wouldn't be able to bring supplies to the Franks.

Bep Voskuijl - July 16, 1943

A few burglars decided to break into the warehouse. This was just terrible. When Peter took a visit to the warehouse, the warehouse door and the door to the street were slightly open. The burglars used a crowbar to break into the outer door. I'm guessing that since they stole two cash boxes with 40 florins, postal orders and checkbooks, all the coupons for the sugar, they didn't find anything of value to them. It caused a bit of a commotion but at least the typewriters and money in everyone's wardrobe were safe and sound. Everyone has been very nervous since the burglary. Dussel thinks that the bugler might try to make a deal with the Green Police to tell them where the family is hiding. Everyone is very edgy and paranoid these days. http://www.q80s.com/wp-content/burglar.jpg

victor Kugler - November 17, 1943

Today I heard that there was Diphtheria in Elli's home. She cannot come into contact with us for 6 weeks. 6 whole weeks!  That's a long time.   Everyone misses her especially since she was one of the helper who helped bring food to the Franks and Van Dann family. Mr. Van Daanis very particular about his food.  Also, Mr.Koophuis is still in bed at the hospital. He had only been eating porridge and drinking milk for the last 3 weeks. Mr.Dussel hadn't talked to either Mrs. Van Dann or Mr. Van Dann. He had told us that Mr. Van Dann had started the silence and he isn't going to be the one who ends it. Yesterday was the 16th the day where Mr. Dussel has been with the Franks for one year he was rewarded a plant.

Bep Voskuijl November 17, 1942

Today is the day Mr. Dussel moves in. The Van Daans and the Frank family all greeted him nicely. Mr. Dussel was in complete shock about the place. We had to explain to him about the plan and what's going to happen. He was indeed astonished. Miep made sure that he felt comfortable and safe. She also gave him a few rules to follow called "The Secret Annex." This is only necessary to keep not just him, but everyone safe and sound. The image “http://www.annefrank.org/upload/Kinderjaren/Kinderjaren_oproeping.JPG” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Bep Voskuijl March 27, 1943

Today, a German named Rauter, found out that all Jews must be out of German-occupied countries before July 1. Things are now becoming more of a challenge. The Frank and Van Daan family should be notified about what's going on. Although, Mr. Van Daan seems like he is a bit more concerned about the cold he currently have. There is good news though. The German department of the Labor Exchange has been set on fire by saboteurs. Hopefully, there will be more good news to come in the futurehttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/21/Bundesarchiv_Bild_183-1982-1021-509,_Hanns_Rauter.jpg.

Victor Kugler - September 10, 1943

Today was a bad day. I was worried about Mr.Koophuis. He had to go to the hospital for abdominal operation and he have to stay there for four weeks. I hope he makes it through the the operation because everyone loves him so much. He is a great man, he's cheerful and brave. There is also, some great news. Last wednesday evening september 8th. I was listening to the seven o'clock news with the Franks and the Van Danns. I had heard that during the whole war, Italy has capitulated. Everyone including me was happy that Italy surrendered.

Bep Voskuijl November 10, 1942

The Frank family and the Van Daans decided to take in an eighth person. Since the conditions and situations with the Jews are becoming worse, both families thought that there was enough food for all and enough room for them to take in another person. It turns out that the eighth person was a dentist named Albert Dussel. Meip knows him well enough so she's making arrangements for him to stay. From what I heard, Mr. Dussel is quite quiet. Let's see how things go with him around.

Victor Kugler - July 16, 1943

Today I heard from Peter that there were burglars at the warehouse. I had hoped they would not steal any of the coupons for 150 kilos of sugar, the typewriters, and the money in the wardrobe. I was amazed they did not steal the typewriters and money but i was devastated when they stole the coupons for 150 kilos of sugar. Mr.Koophuis thinks the burglars that had broke into the warehouse today could belong to the gang that had tried to break in 6 weeks ago but failed. Mr.Frank was mad because they stole the coupons they had been saving.  The items that were stolen from the warehouse includ  were 2 cash boxes that contains forty florins, postal orders, checkbooks, and the coupons for 150 kilos of sugar. Today wasn't a great day because the burglars.

Miep Gies - July 16, 1943

Today, Mr. Frank told me that a burglar broke into the warehouse downstairs. When Peter made one of his usual trips downstairs, he found that the warehouse door and the street door was slightly opened.

I was afraid that Mr. Frank and the others were in big trouble because police officers and detectives will be investigating the warehouse.
Mr. Koophius told us that the buglars just took two cashboxes containing forty florins, postal orders, checkbooks and all the coupons for 150 kilos of sugar. We have to be so careful now that this burglary has occured.

Bep Voskuijl August 21, 1942

Today, the entrance for the hidden place was covered up. Mr. Kraler had an idea of putting a cupboard in front of the door since houses are being searched for bicycles and other things. I don't think it's such a bad idea at all. Of course, it would have to be a movable cupboard so everyone can pass through. I believe the idea of putting cupboard in front of the door will make the Frank family a bit more comfortable and safer. It will also make us ( the helpers feel safer). I still can't believe we have agreed to do this but I am proud to be a helper. The image “https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP8HZ81vQKQfK9pro5Kw2HzWvuNgsuSPsq6q32yj3MopuN160nMrcLhs0Z3U2hwqHZ3UlGGAm0RgQC08J7eK7PKvyhYhiz2Op5Bh9iQCxc9IWHJHuJ_v8f0pKGE8vDTcfDGP7NXSKCZdU/s400/anne2.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Victor Kugler- March 27,1943

Today Mr.Van Daan has a cold. He is making a big fuss about the cold. He had been drinking camomile tea, putting tincture of myrrh on his neck, rubbing eucalyptus all over his chest, nose, teeth, and tongue. Also, he is in a weird mood but Anne thinks me "he is in an evil mood." We heard on the radio A German named Rauter had made a speech where he announced that "All Jews must be out of the German-occupied countries before July 1st.  As soon as I heard this news I felt that I had to share this information with the Frank family.   Great news!  We heard that the German department of the labor exchange has been set on fire by saboteurs.   Also,  a few days later men in the German police manage to destroy important papers. I thought it was great that the German labor exchange was set on fire. Also, I thought it was great that the men dressed in German police uniform destroyed important papers that could be use to make it much easier for them to find the Jews.  Things are looking better everyday.

Meip Gies- March 27,1943

I heard that a German dignitary named Rauter said that "All Jews must be out of German-occupied countries by July 1st.
When I told Mr. Frank and everyone in the secret annex they were terrified, we were hoping that nobody and I mean nobody find us. This also meant that I had to work extra hard to protect them and keep them safe.

We were all terrified for weeks; all of the helpers. We were afraid that all the Jews that were found will be killed. I felt so sorry for them but I couldn't show it. It seems that every person could be exterminated like some terrible disease.

I fear for the Jews and their children.
These Nazi's have no heart, they have no soul.

Johannes Kleman - November 10, 1942

Mr. Frank had a great idea to allow another person into the secret annex that would make eight people in the hiding place. Mr.Frank told everyone that he was going to let another person move into the secret annex. Everyone was so exited. Anne said they have enough room and enough food for another person and thatt she was willing to share her room with the new person.

The eight person they pick was Albert Dussel who was a dentist and his wife was a fortunate.

Meip Gies- November 17,1942

Today Mr. Dussel moves in the secret annex, I thought it was going along smoothly.
The Franks explained everything to him and they all had lunch together. Mr. Dussel explored the secret annex and gaze in astonishment. He was astonished because he never thought that an elegant business man will have to go into hiding.

I was so ashamed because I was doubting my own friend, I thought he was a spy working for the Germans.
When I went over to bring books for the Franks and others to read, I was afraid to face Mr. Dussel. I thought he would see me as a bad friend, but something struck me, I never knew who was coming in the secret annex.

Victor Kugler- November 16, 1942

Today Fritz Pfeffer finally made it to the hiding place. We all greeted him into the house. He told us that his wife does not know where he had gone but she does know he managed to get out of Holland. I thought that he would be with his wife but I see he had left his wife back in Holland. It would of been better if he had brought his wife with him because they will be worried about each other. I hope that Fritz could survive without worrying about his wife. Fritz  is going to share a room with Anne. Anne used to share a room with her sister Margrot but she is sharing a room with her parents now.

Meip Gies - November 10,1942

Mr. Frank have considered taking in an 8th person into the secret annex. I thought it was a bad idea because who knows, that person might be a German spy trying to find Jews who are in hiding.

Then again, maybe it's a good deed because we'll be helping a fellow like us. If we don't do this, they might get killed or sent to concentration camps. I'll still be keeping an eye on them. I have always known that Mr. Frank was a kind- loving person but, this show how REALLY kind-hearted he is.

Mr. Frank refused all of
the Van Daans members, he choose a doctor name Albert Dussel.
His wife was lucky enough to get out of the country when the war began.
I just remembered that I knew Albert Dussel, so I'll take back what I said.

Victor Kugler - November 10, 1942

Today there will be another person that will be hiding with the Frank and the Van Daan family. His name is Fritz Pfeffer and he is a friend of Miep fiancee that needs a place to stay. I suggested to Mr.Frank that he should let Fritz Pfeffer stay with them and being the compassionate person he is, he agreed to let him stay. Today he is telling everyone in the hiding place that there will be another person who is going to hide with them. I thought this was a great idea because he's a dentist and he would also be a medical help.  But there is one bad reason about letting him stay with the Franks and that is that he will be another mouth to feed.

Johannes Kleiman - August 21, 1942

I am a business man who knows very little about construction. So, when Mr. Kraler had the idea of putting a movable cupboard in front of the door I didn't know what to think. I thought it was a bad idea at first because I didn't think it would block the whole front door. Mr.Kraler wanted to put the cupboard just in case someone passes by they wouldn't think anything of it So, I decided that since I didn't know anything about these things, I would agree with Mr. Kraler. I would do anything to keep the Franks and the Van Daans from being caught by the green police.
Gestapo officers

Meip Gies - August 21,1942

Mr. Kraler had an idea of putting a cupboard in front of the attic door, I thought it was kind of a brilliant idea because it could help block the attic door at the office and it would also make our job of helping to protect them much easier. This idea really made me feel so much more comfortable because I am constantly worrying about the safety of the Franks and the Van Daans. I try not to let them know how afraid.

I think that Mr. Kraler thought that the workers might cause havock to their hiding plan, so he had a idea.

If Mr. Kraler never had this idea then the workers might have been able to come back and forth into the attic room. I thought, maybe I should tell the workers that the attic is being repaired and that they can't go up there right now. I would bring all of the equipment downstairs and they won't have a reason to go upstairs.

Victor Kugler - August 21, 1942

Today is the day when the Franks family is secure in their hiding place.   The green police has been searching peoples houses more and more lately.  I have suggested that the Franks family build a bookcase in front of the entrance to their hiding place.  I had suggested this idea because when the police search their house they would not know that the bookcase can open and close and that the Franks family is hiding behind the bookcase.  I helped the Franks family because Mr.Frank is a great friend of mine and I would do almost anything to help him with anything he needs.  I know he would do it for me.

Miep Gies - July 9,1942

JULY 9,2010
Today, Mr. Frank just told me that he and his family along with the Van Daan's were going into hiding. We were talking about it and planning for it for a very long time. I was shocked that the time had finally come because I never thought that a sophisticated man like Mr. Frank will ever need to go into hiding.

Since, Mr. Frank is Jewish and the Germans are executing the Jews we have to begin moving immediately.

I couldn't believe that Mr. Frank trusts me enough to name his company Gies & Co. I was happy and scared at the same time because if I get caught, it might get really ugly. For example, we might get executed or send to a concentration camp as well.
I will be looking forward to helping the Franks and the Vaan Daans escape from their cruel fate.

Victor Kugler - July 9, 1942

Today Johannes Kleiman and I are helping our friend Otto Frank prepare to move into hiding. We are hoping to help them move into hiding before the day when they completely bann Jews from traveling without gaining prior permission. Before this, Kleiman, Miep, and I had worked with Otto Frank to prevent Nazi confiscation of his businesses by transferring ownership of his business to non-Jewish associates and renaming it "Gies and Co" which is Miep's last name.

Bep Voskuijl - July 9, 1942

Today is the day that Mr. Frank and his family move into the secret annex. The individuals who are expected to move into the secret annex are Herman and Auguste Van Pels, with their son Peter along with the Frank family. I was aware of everyone's arrival, in fact I was there to help them all become acquainted with their new living arrangements. My father and two other boys had been working on the hideout. The hideout wasn't that big for everyone but I knew it was enough for us everyone or at least everyone would have to make it work. In the building, there was an office for Miep, Mr. Koophuis, and I to do any necessary work. This is going to take a while to adjust but I would do anything for the Frank family.
