Meip Gies- November 17,1943

We have a problem in the family of those in the warehouse; diphtheria is in Elli's home. She was unable to come to the warehouse for 6 whole weeks, I know that the Frank and the Van Daan family are all worried about her. They are just those kind of people. Even thought they have so much going on, they still show that they are about Elli. Since she is the one who does most of the shopping for the family, they probably miss her especially. I will try to ease their minds.

Johannes Kleman - November 17,1942

Mr.Dussel was so exited that he got to go into hiding with the Franks and the Van Daans. Mr.Dussel was greeted nicely and he was in shock because he couldn't see something so small with 8 people living there. Mr.Dussel remembered Mr. Frank. In fact, he said he never thought he would see the day when a man like Mr. Frank would have to go into hiding. He was very shocked to find out the they were still alive.

Miep told Mr.Dussel some of the house rule. One of the rule was that if they hear something they have to be quite. There were very strict rules about when they could move around and what they could do. Mr. Dussel will be sharing a room with Mr. Frank's youngest daughter, Anne.

Today, I heard that something exciting has happened that I can't wait to share with the Franks and the Van Daans. Things have been getting worst for everyone lately. So, I am excited to be able to share some positive news with them. The news is: Italy finally surrendered!

Meip Gies-September 10,1943

I found out that Mr. Koophius has to have an operation. This is terrible news for all of us. We have become like one big family. I felt sad when I heard the news because it doesn't seem like the operation might not go well. Anne didn't take this news very well. She was feeling sad because Mr. Koophius has to stay in the hospital for at least 4 weeks. It will be a long time before he will be able to visit the family again. I will try to keep everyone positive.

I was also feeling kind of sad for him because I don't think he will be able to survive the operation.

Victor Kugler - February 3 , 1944

Today I just read the newspaper and I read that the German will do what ever they can to defend the their country. I have seen maps of which part of the land will be flooded. The Franks family was thinking what they will do if the street water raised to 1 meter. They also, was thinking what would they do if the Germans evacuated Amsterdam. I heard while reading the newspaper, someone say leave the city and disguises them self as best as they could. Than they started to argue about what they should do. All day the talked about the invasion. If there was a flood on our street it would cause trouble because than the German will evacuate everyone from the street including me. Then I wouldn't be able to bring supplies to the Franks.

Bep Voskuijl - July 16, 1943

A few burglars decided to break into the warehouse. This was just terrible. When Peter took a visit to the warehouse, the warehouse door and the door to the street were slightly open. The burglars used a crowbar to break into the outer door. I'm guessing that since they stole two cash boxes with 40 florins, postal orders and checkbooks, all the coupons for the sugar, they didn't find anything of value to them. It caused a bit of a commotion but at least the typewriters and money in everyone's wardrobe were safe and sound. Everyone has been very nervous since the burglary. Dussel thinks that the bugler might try to make a deal with the Green Police to tell them where the family is hiding. Everyone is very edgy and paranoid these days. http://www.q80s.com/wp-content/burglar.jpg

Today I heard that there was Diphtheria in Elli's home. She cannot come into contact with us for 6 weeks. 6 whole weeks!  That's a long time.   Everyone misses her especially since she was one of the helper who helped bring food to the Franks and Van Dann family. Mr. Van Daanis very particular about his food.  Also, Mr.Koophuis is still in bed at the hospital. He had only been eating porridge and drinking milk for the last 3 weeks. Mr.Dussel hadn't talked to either Mrs. Van Dann or Mr. Van Dann. He had told us that Mr. Van Dann had started the silence and he isn't going to be the one who ends it. Yesterday was the 16th the day where Mr. Dussel has been with the Franks for one year he was rewarded a plant.
